BeliefsGrace: We are saved from sin, death, and the power of the devil and saved for living a life that reflects God's love for all creation.
"For it is by grace that you have been saved through faith and this is not your own doing but a gift from God." Ephesians 2:8 Word: Jesus is the living word of God and his life of perfect love and sacrificial service speaks of a God who will stop at nothing to redeem this fallen world. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of people." John 1:1-4 Love nurtured and shared in Community and with the world: The community of the church is a place where love is given and received. God is the source of this love and the faith community is the place we "practice" loving each other. But love can never be contained but instead overflows to the world that is in need of this love for life and healing. "Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, hen each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love." Ephesians 4:13-16 Peace not walls: A community in the name and likeness of Jesus is a community that is porous and where all are welcome. We believe bridges are a better investment than are walls. "For the Lord of hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up—and it shall be brought low; against all the cedars of Lebanon, lofty and lifted up; and against all the oaks of Bashan; against all the lofty mountains, and against all the uplifted hills; against every high tower, and against every fortified wall; against all the ships of Tarshish, and against all the beautiful craft. And the haughtiness of man shall be humbled, and the lofty pride of men shall be brought low, and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day." Isaiah 2:12-17 |
